Extreme Knitting

This is a truly fascinating video… Talk about re-purposing yarns, Extreme Knitting creates a 1000 strand yarn and proceeds to knit a mattress out of it. It’s CRAZY! I had to watch it a couple of times to believe it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It’ll get you thinking…and when you do, let us know about it.

Very interesting and quite the endeavour. Not only crafting but a workout too!

Yes, I know. Imagine trying to do cables with that yarn. What a feat…just simply had to share it.

Fantastic ! How are the single strands created from scraps-seems to me that there would be a lot of knots

I don’t know that they shared that information with us in the video however, there are several ways that you can connect fibers including splicing the strands by raveling a bit of each end and then intertwining them or if an animal fiber, you can rub the between your hands to intwine the fibers…and of course, you can tie a tiny knot but this method is best if the knot will remain hidden in the work and is definitely ‘knot’ for lacework for example.

On the Knit Be Nimble home page, you can click on the title for the post and that will take you straight there. I will investigate whether or not I can add a [more] or […] box to that section though. Thank you for letting me know.

This is what one truly calls extreme knitting. I have never seen anything like it before. How long did it take from the time to sort out all the yarn to pulling them out and finally to knit the mattress? I can imagine it must weigh a ton.
